Hi All,
Early confirmation of this weeks activities :-).
First of all, can you let me know if you will be at training
on Friday. This weeks session will comprise of part training as normal (20-30
mins or so), but then (hopefully if we have the numbers) two Arrows teams vs.
two Waverton Rockets teams in two 6-aside mini friendlies.
Saturday sees us playing away to Princes Villa. They
play at Whitby Park in Ellesmere Port and the best entrance is to come in from
Chester Road, take a right onto Woodland Road and take what looks like the 5th
right onto Park Drive. Continue down the road and just before the turning on
the left to Clydesdale, look for somewhere to park and you should see Whitby
Park on the right ( post code that is close is CH65 6RA. I'm going to check
this out during the week so will confirm the accuracy before the match! I've
agreed with the Princes Villa coach that we'll be playing 6-aside, so will
likely take 9 boys but will confirm once I know availability. Kick off will
be 9:30 so we need to be there at 9:00.
For both, if you can let me know ASAP and no later than
mid-day on Thursday.
Thanks all.

Training Report - 26th September 2015
Hi All
Sad I know, not a match report, but I just wanted to relay this to you and your boys; they are coming on in leaps and bounds - they are listening and taking instruction and applying that immediately - its fantastic to watch; I'm really happy with what I am seeing.
Some of the boys are aligning themselves to positions which is great. I have the luxury as well (but sometimes this can be a headache!) that a lot of the boys can play in different positions equally well. Please don't think that if your son is in goal or defence that this is a lesser role - each position is vital and if I've placed your boy there its because they are good in it, and more importantly - they are happy to be there! Believe me I've never seen such enthusiasm to want to be in goal!
We have some interesting fixtures coming up - the next three should be: Princes Villa (A), Saughall (H) and Upton (A). If we carry on as we are, I really believe we will get a result or two.
I know today (Saturday) was tiring for everyone, but I saw really good progress, so thank you to everyone for being there and as it turned out, sweltering in the Autumn sun!
Thanks again, and expect a mail during the week to confirm the match.

Saturday 26th September - Information
Hi All,
After some deliberating, and seeing how well the boys played last Saturday against Malpas I had decided to go ahead with our planned game against Newton Athletic; however their manager had another two games to run so we couldn't get the times to work. We therefore agreed to postpone and rearrange in the next month or so. It's a shame, but I'm also seeing it as an additional opportunity to get some more training in.
So to confirm, training is as normal on Friday, same place, same time. Our Saturday session will be held at the Huntington Jubilee Field (same place as the match against Ellesmere Port Jets) - this is our home pitch from now on (Address is: Jubilee Field, Meadow Lane, off Butterbache Road, Huntington. CH3 6DF is the postcode of the school next door).
If everyone can aim to be there from 10am that would be great. Likelihood is that we will try and do and hour and a half, subject to weather.
Although there's no match, I'd still appreciate a quick note back to let me know if you can be there. If you've already informed me of you being away, you don't need to do it again.
Thanks all.

Match Report: Sat 19th September: Malpas 2 - Arrows 0
Hi All,
An absolutely fantastic game to watch, as the Arrows really took their learning from Friday nights training and deployed it in the match.
Malpas had been playing for at least a year together but you couldn't really tell; not that they were bad, far from it - they are actually well drilled, but we matched them boy for boy (even when they brought on their two better boys!).
We chased the ball, put in some great tackles and had some great runs down both lines and through the middle. We had more chances than the home team and were just unlucky not to put them away. That again will come.
I was really proud of the boys, please pass this on to them; every single boy did fantastically well.
The trend of results is definitely going in the right direction in terms of score-line, but much more importantly, in how the boys performance, how they are working together and how they are starting to understand their positions more.
Next week is training as usual on Friday and then EITHER training at home then a game vs. Newton Athletic Reds OR an extended training session at our home pitch. I will let you know nearer the time.
One final thing; I'm really sorry for getting there late today. I had been on a IT Security Operational call for my employer since before 7am and had to pick my moment to extract myself from it. I rejoined it when I got back and its only just finished - an 11 hour call! Great thanks to Darren for getting the boys ready whilst I wasn't there, Tom for sitting patiently waiting for me this morning, Rob for the after match treats and to all of you for getting them to the game on time - really appreciated.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Match Report: Sat 12th September: Arrows 1 - Ellesmere Port Jets 8
Hi all,
An interesting match where the score certainly didn't reflect the game. We played much better as a group and I can start to see where some players are suited in terms of positioning. It will take a bit of time for everyone to get used to it though, so please bear with us!
There was some good performances out there, considering that this group was only playing together for the second time so we will only improve further as we go forward.
Special mentions have to go out to Oscar for some impressive saves in the first half, including a spectacular one by his face (!) and also to Jack who scored the first official league goal for the Arrows - lets have some more please!!
Next up will be a relatively stronger Malpas side away.
Sorry for the brevity of the report; its been one of those weeks...
Thanks,
Carl

Saturday 12th September - Extra Training & 1st League Match!
Hi All,
9:15: Volunteers needed to help set up goals please!
9:30: Additional training @ our 'home' ground which is at Jubilee Field, Meadow Lane, off Butterbache Road, Huntington. CH3 6DF is the postcode of the school next door. You access the field and parking via a small road - be aware that parking is limited!
10:30: Play first competitive match vs. Ellesmere Port Jets.
10 boys have confirmed availability, so I will take all 10.
As we will be there for ~2 hours can I ask that you bring some additional water/suitable drink for the boys? Also they should ensure they have their shinpads, warm top for when they are on a break, etc.
See you at training tonight.

Back to Earth with a bump
Hi All,
Thanks for your support, I hope the boys have dusted themselves off and are ready to go again.
I'm not sure there is too much to say about yesterday
really. We came up against an extremely professional, forceful and to be frank,
unforgiving team in Christleton Newscene (CNS), and took a heavy loss; but
remember that those boys are streamed and have been training and playing with
each other for three years or more. As Waverton Arrows with the new influx of
players, this was our first match after very little training.
I do know the score, but I am reluctant to post it. We can
and will do better going forward. Something to note though is that we
(Waverton) are likely going to ask the Chester & District Junior Football
League to look at the leagues that Arrows, Jets and Rockets have been allocated
as there is a lot of inconsistency and on the whole doesn't make sense. Waverton
Arrows shouldn't be in the company of CNS, Malpas and particularly Newton (all
of which we are due to play over the next 4-5 weeks). Many of the teams from
last year have spun up new squads, like us for this season, but have changed
names throughout the squads which has clearly confused the League. Hopefully it
will be sorted soon.
Separately, I would like to gauge opinion on potentially
running an extra training session, subject to weather during the next few
weeks. Likelihood is that this would be on a Wednesday evening at the Waverton
Field. There would be no additional cost for this, other than on your time and
getting your player to the pitch. I'm conscious that there will be other
clubs/activities going on, so if numbers can't make it then so be it. I do think
it would help though. Training on Fridays remains constant at the Cheshire County
Offices at 5:45, same as last week.
Thanks for your support, I hope the boys have dusted themselves off and are ready to go again.
One final thing - there were too many voices being heard
giving instructions yesterday. The team really need to hear just one voice,
mine, unless I ask a parent to help me on match days (which will be happening
shortly!). So can I respectfully ask that any comments made are based on
praise, applause and encouragement.
Thanks as always,
Carl

Confirmed Arrows Squad for this weekends match vs. Christleton Newscene
Hi
All,
So a bit of to and fro -ing from the league - they recognised that they gave very little notice to all teams regarding the league starting this weekend so they have pushed ALL fixtures back by one week so the league officially starts from Saturday 12th against Christleton Newscene (CNS).
HOWEVER as I had already arranged the match with CNS for this weekend they are happy to proceed with the match as planned this Saturday 5th September but it will be classed as a friendly. Most other teams were not able to secure their first fixture this weekend at all so the fact we have and still retain it for some much needed practice is excellent news, I hope you all agree.
That being said, we will approach it as a proper competitive fixture (they very much will!) so the confirmed team for this weekend is as follows:
· Elliot Barnes
· Max Gaynon
· Oliver Wrigley
· Oliver Barnes
· Jack Binns
· Xander Veal
· Casper Rathbone
· Harry Reid
The location is at Newton Primary School - refer to my earlier mail, or look at earlier entries in the blog for directions, etc. Kick off is 9:15am, the squad needs to be there 20 mins before. If you have a Waverton kit please wear it, but likelihood is that we will need to wear bibs due to us being short a few.
You don't need to reconfirm attendance; however if your availability changes between now and Saturday (hopefully not) please confirm ASAP. For those that can make training this week, see you at Cheshire County Offices (Pitch 3 - turn right once you come through the gates and follow it around) at 5:45pm.
Thanks

The season kicks off THIS Saturday - availability please
Hi All,
As mentioned, I will likely be picking 8 boys to play 6-aside. The match is against Christleton Newscene (quite a competitive team) with the venue swapped to be away at their pitch (Newton Primary School - CH2 2LA) with a kick off at 09:15 - please can all boys be there at least 20 mins beforehand.
Best access is to come in from the Brook Lane/Kingsway West direction and park in the school car park.
Carl
So late on Monday night the league published the 2015-16 fixtures
with the first round being this Saturday 5th September!
I know at least one person is not around, but before I name
the first squad can you please let me know your availability ASAP.

Waverton Arrows Parents Notice - important information regarding training & the new season
Hi All,
There are a number of things we need to cover prior to the season getting under way, so instead of lots of short emails where some of the detail may be missed, I've consolidated into this single mail so apologies from the start that its a long one.
Season dates
Believe it or not we are still to hear from the league when our first match is and who it is against. I'm led to believe it is likely to be on either Saturday 12th or Saturday 19th. As soon as I know I will share immediately.
Training
We have to ensure that the team can train as much as possible throughout the season, and as such we need to rely on artificial pitches as the Waverton field can be unplayable at times. Artificial pitches also come with floodlights so that also is a massive plus as we look into the Autumn and Winter months. In order to secure a pitch for our use over this period we will be sharing a pitch with the Waverton Rockets (this won't be a mixed session though, Rob will run the Rockets on one half and I will run the Arrows on the other; there will be opportunities I'm sure to play friendly matches at times, but separate training is a must). These sessions are likely to begin this coming Friday (4th September) and will run from 5:45 through to 6:45. I will confirm these details as soon as the club confirm to me, so please look out for a further email on this subject.
Subscriptions
In the past these have been £2.00 and payable weekly. We intend to keep the cost the same for this season, however we are looking at options to potentially collect on a monthly or term basis. Rebecca will discuss this with you when we are next all together. The majority of this sub goes to pay for the artificial pitch use, but there will be some left over to contribute to tournament entry fees and also hopefully contributions to Christmas and End of Season meals for the boys.
Kit
Out of the 12 boys I believe we have 5 with kits from last year, 2 with old 'chevron-style' kits and 5 with no Waverton kit at all. For the 2 with old kits, Rebecca has 2 new kits that we will swap out. For the 5 that have no kit then I will place an order in the next day or so with our supplier and they should take a couple of weeks to come through. They typically come in a standard size (Age 8-10 - they come up small!), however if you feel that you need an alternate size then please let me know within the next 24 hours else the standard size will be ordered.
I would recommend that the boys don't wear their Waverton kit on a Friday (for training) as they need to be in a clean and dry condition for the match day on the Saturday.
Jackets
We can order additional Prostar jackets for boys that do not have them. The cost is confirmed as £25. This comes with the Waverton badge and the boys initials. I can personally state that the boys love them, are really proud to wear them and most importantly do help to keep the weather at bay in the Autumn/Winter.
Training and Match Days
Please please please can all parents ensure the following: that your boy has a suitable drink for each session; that they have suitable clothing for the weather conditions; that parents bring their sons to training on time and for matches are there at a minimum 20 minutes prior to kick off (they need to warm up and have team talks). Parents also need to assist where possible in the set up of the pitch (for home matches).
Game time
I expect that we will play 6-a side most weekends. That being the case I intend to take a squad of 8 to each match (so 2 rolling subs). By doing this I can ensure that each boy plays on average 3 out of 4 quarters for the match where they are selected (this exceeds the FA guidelines). If you know in advance that you are not going to be around on a particular Saturday, please let me know ASAP so I can build it in to my rotation planner.
Respect
This isn't last as an afterthought, it is a real area for concern in football at all levels. There are a few resources that can be referenced; attached is AFC Waverton's Code of Conduct for Parents and below are some links to FA-related material. Please can I ask that you read and watch these so you understand what is/is not acceptable at training and matches. Believe it or not in the last year I have seen similar (although not quite so extreme examples on match days).
Any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
